My work is centered around the experience of being with oneself and around people. There is no particular aspect of the society that I concentrate on. The people and the urban landscape are equally of interest to me. Seeing and being aware of one's surroundings is the underlying focus of my photographs. Recent introduction to color darkroom printing and a keen interest in abstraction has greatly influenced my work.
The 2 specific bodies of work that I am working on concurrently are-
The Possessed- A documentation of people who are believed to be possessed by demons or gods, the spiritual and religious healers who exorcise them, and places of confinement and treatment of such people. This project is an attempt to chronicle this strange practice, its relevance, impact and to perhaps try and evaluate the extent of the difference between our reality, and ‘Theirs’. With this long term project the intent is to cover all such places in India over a period of few years and the final outcome shall be a publication.
Untitled- A result of experimental printing, this body of work is a series of prints made by exposing paper to direct light without use of an enlarger or negative using different techniques. The end result is a series of prints which are intended to create a feeling of mystery and questioning the void.
